Gutter run along the eave of a ranch home above two new picture windows

Gutters look simple but the pitch and the downspout placement are what actually determine whether they work. We take the old system off first and check the fascia board behind it, since that is often where rot shows up after years of overflow or a gutter that was never sloped correctly. Once the fascia is sound, new gutters go up hung to a real pitch so water actually moves toward the downspouts instead of sitting in the trough.

Downspouts get sized and placed to handle the volume this area sees, especially in spring when snowmelt and rain hit at the same time. A downspout that dumps water two feet from the foundation does more harm than no gutter at all, since it concentrates water right where you do not want it, against the foundation wall or over a walkway where it turns to ice. We place extensions or splash blocks so water actually gets carried away from the house instead of just moved from the roof to the ground right next to it.

How it runs

  1. Removal Old gutters and downspouts are taken down completely.
  2. Fascia check The fascia board is inspected for rot or water damage before new gutters go up.
  3. Hang gutters New gutters are installed with the correct pitch so water moves toward the downspouts instead of sitting still.
  4. Set downspouts Downspouts are placed and sized to carry the expected water volume away from the house.
  5. Seal and test Joints and end caps are sealed and the system is checked for flow.
  6. Walkthrough We go over the finished gutters and downspout placement with you before wrapping up.
